Things to do over the August Bank Holiday weekend!

Things to do over the August Bank Holiday weekend!

Bank Holiday pending… Get ready for our last summer Bank Holiday and treat yourself to a 3 day weekend like no other!

After another week of showers and miserable weather, it’s hard to believe that we’re actually in August. BUT with August coming to an end and the bank holiday weekend looming, weather reports have stated that we may FINALLY be in for that heatwave that we’ve all been waiting for. Temperatures are set to rise with most of the country expected to have sunny weather - YAY!

With the sun in mind, we thought we would help you out with some fun things to get up to over the bank holiday.

This bank holiday is a great time to spend time with friends and family, see a bit more of the UK, or take the opportunity of the long weekend and plan a little staycation (or even go abroad - if you’re brave enough!).

Bank holidays weekends are made to be filled with fun, friends and family, and the weather... well that can be hit and miss!

With that being said, there are plenty of fun things to do and a lot of places to visit that can be enjoyed whatever the weather.

In need of some Bank Holiday plans? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!

From camping to boat rides, here are ten things to do over the long weekend.

Head to a music festival

August bank holidays are famously known for being the weekend that a lot of festivals fall on. One of the best things to do on the August Bank Holiday (and most fun), is to head to a UK festival.

Some of the UK festivals that are happening this August bank holiday weekend include:

Reading and Leeds Festival (27-29th August 2021)

Creamfields, Cheshire (26-29th August 2021)

SW4 London (27th - 29th August 2021)

Manchester Pride (27th - 30th August 2021)

The Big Feastival, The Cotswolds (27th-29th August 2021)

Victorious Festival, Portsmouth (27th-29th August 2021)

Go camping

Summer camping is the go-to activity. There are so many options on offer when it comes to camping. Whether you have a campervan or a 4 man tent, camping in the summer is the best way to enjoy the (hopefully) better weather and a great way to spend some more time outside. There are so many campsites in the UK to pitch your tent, so get looking at your local campsites! Or if you want to travel further afield, make sure you look to see if there are campsites near a National Park so you could even get a weekend hike or walk in.

Hit the beach

This may be an unpopular opinion BUT we truly believe that the UK is home to some of the most beautiful beaches yet most people are unaware that we have so many! From beaches on the Norfolk Coast to the Jurassic Coast in Dorset, there are plenty of places to get your beach fix and enjoy some sun!

Whether it’s dipping your feet in the sea or enjoying some fish and chips on the sand, that super early alarm doesn’t sound that bad after all!

Grab your swimming gear, a couple of chairs and some towels and head down to your nearest beach - trust us, you won’t regret it! The water will be warm(ish), the sun will be shining (hopefully!), and whatever the weather, there will be plenty of fish and chips and ice cream on offer.

Go outdoors- go for a walk or a bike ride

Who doesn’t love the outdoors? Whether you want to soak up the sun or you want a more challenging day hike or bike ride, there are so many options for you to get active and get outdoors and enjoy some fresh air. If a challenging day doesn’t sound like you, then why not just take a gentle stroll or potter around a park on a bike. Fresh air has never felt so good!

Boat ride

A boat ride in the sunshine? Yes please! There are a lot of locations across the UK that allow you the opportunity to spend some fun on the water. From pedalos and row boats to motor boats and river cruises, there is something for the whole family to get involved in and is definitely an activity that would go down a treat.

Enjoy a picnic by a river or lake

If you want to make the most of the sunshine this weekend, get together with your nearest and dearest and spend some quality time together over a picnic. Yummy food + spend time with friends/family = the perfect bank holiday  combination. What better way to have a well overdue catch up than over some yummy snacks in the sunshine? (weather permitting).

Head to an indoor or outdoor cinema

Outdoor film screenings are becoming more and more popular, especially this summer. So why not see what’s on in your local area, get the squad together, park up and watch a new (or classic) movie together.

If the weather isn’t on your side, then don’t forget indoor cinemas are now back open! So you can still enjoy watching a movie on the big screen with your friends and family.

Oh and don’t forget your popcorn!

Go on a UK road trip

If you’re stuck for things to do this bank holiday, why not explore more of the UK? It might be hard to choose where to go but we’re sure that wherever you choose, it will be filled with fun and you’ll come home with a whole load of memories!

Enjoy a weekend away

There are so many beautiful places to visit in the UK that we understand how hard it is to choose a place to spend your time. Whether you choose to explore a new city or village in the UK or go further afield and head to Europe for a weekend, the best thing to do is make the most of the extra day off! So explore somewhere new or head to one of your favourite spots.

Head to theme park

Are you a bit of a thrill seeker? Or just love a good water ride? Why not head to a theme park! You can't go wrong with a trip to a theme park and the UK has some pretty good ones too! From Drayton Manor, to Alton Towers and Thorpe Park - there is something for all the family to enjoy!

You may want to pre-book tickets though as on the day prices can be a bit steep.
