Movies We Can't Wait To See This Summer 2023! 📽️☀️
And just like that, we're half way through the year!
The last five months have been great for new movie releases and by the looks of the next few months, it's only going to get better.
From Barbie and Elemental to the new Mission Impossible and Indiana Jones, here are some of the movies we can't wait to see this June/July!
Spider-Man: Across the Spider- Verse
2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider- Verse was one of the coolest things to happen to animation and now Spidey is back with a sequel!
So, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse features six universes, 240 characters and a handful of celebrity cameos. It’s a multiverse-hopping adventure that follows Miles and Gwen Stacey’s epic journey through the gamut of alternative realities.
Across the Spider-Verse sends Morales onto another identity-crisis adventure while setting up next year’s Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. The new movie boasts old faces and new. Shameik Moore returns as the voice of Miles while Hailee Steinfield is back for a second time as Gwen.
Now we all know the multiverse is a big place, but just because these web slingers share the same spandex, doesn’t mean they are all on the same side.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is out in cinemas now.
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts
Set in the 1900s, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts takes audiences back to the mid-90s and follows Optimus Prime and the Autobots as they face their biggest challenge yet, when a new threat capable of destroying the entire planet emerges.
Serving both as a sequel to Bumblebee and a tribute to Beast Wars, Rise of the Beasts takes audiences on a ‘90s globetrotting adventure and introduces a whole new breed of Transformer - the Maximals.
Up until now we’ve seen a thousand robots in disguise - mostly in the forms of planes, trains and automobiles. But in Rise of the Beasts, director Steven Caple Jr has thrown a massive curveball and introduces a new breed of animal- inspired mechanoids.
If you’ve always wanted to see Optimus Prime team up with a Kong-sized metal gorilla, then you’re going to watch Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is out in cinemas now.
The Flash
Everything you thought you knew about the DC universe, forget about it because this new movie will rip up everything you thought you knew about the DC universe.
Multi-verses were all the rage in 2022, and this movie looks to be DC’s contribution to the trend. All we can say is, expect some crossover shenanigans.
If you thought Sonic The Hedgehog was fast, Flash is faster. He’s so fast he blurs dimensions AND so fast he beats his own shadow. Impressive right?
The Flash sees Barry pelt back in time to prevent his mother’s murder, only to become marooned in an alternate reality where Superman’s old adversary General Zod (played by Michael Shannon) is seizing power.
From Ezra Miller as The Flash to the brand new Super girl and not one but two Batmen, start your summer of superhero action with The Flash, out in cinemas now.
Asteroid City
Starring Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Margot Robbie, Steve Carrell and more, Wes Anderson has gathered another ridiculously star-studded ensemble cast for his latest movie. Asteroid City is a period comedy set in 1955 about the students and parents at a Junior Stargazer convention. By the looks of it so far, this movie is looking like the most Wes Anderson-y Wes Anderson movie yet.
Asteroid City is out in cinemas June 23rd.
Indiana Jones 5 - The Dial of Destiny
We're not ready to say goodbye yet! Can you believe the time has come to bid farewell to Indiana Jones?! We’re not crying, you are!
Indiana Jones sees Harrison Ford on his fifth and final Indy adventure as The Dial of Destiny is the final movie of the epic franchise.
Indiana Jones 5 is mostly set in 1969, when the shiny new space race between the USA and Soviet Union is threatening to make our tomb-raiding hero seem like a relic.
From rolling boulders and the silhouette of a dusty Fedora, it’s looking like Indy is going out with a bang in his fifth and final adventure that will make you feel like ten years old all over again.
If the movie trailer can give us goosebumps, we can’t wait until the 28th June to watch the entire movie on the big screen.
Indiana Jones 5 - The Dial of Destiny is out in cinemas on the 28th June.
Elemental
Move over Romeo and Juliet, meet Ember and Wade - the fire and water elements whose love affair might literally evaporate.
Now we all know by now that you don’t have to be a kid to be excited for a new Pixar movie.
Pixar movies are so much more than just humour and light-hearted entertainment. They are wise, relatable and touch on tough subjects from death to loneliness.
Coming to the big screen on July 7th, Disney and Pixar are back and are about to take us on a journey of the heart, mind, and soul in order to learn more about ourselves, each other, and our world through fantastical universes and adorable animated characters.
Elemental is a personal story inspired by director Peter Sohn's childhood as an immigrant in New York City. Peter Sohn has said that Elemental is not just about star-crossed lovers but about society, prejudice and tolerance. The story follows the friendship between a fiery young woman made of flame and a “go with the flow” man made of water in a diverse city where people of different elements live together.
From just watching the trailer alone, Elemental looks like a heart-warming story that is sure to make you feel all toasty inside.
Elemental is out in cinemas July 7th.
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One
Tom Cruise’s epic new adventure and you ain’t seen nothing yet!
Rumoured as the grand finale for secret agent Ethan Hunt. The two-parter is expected to be the most “epic” M:I movie yet.
Mission Impossible 7 is set to see many things emerging from Ethan’s past and more personal stakes for the hero, with an army of ghosts and skeletons lining up for retribution.
The latest instalment brings back familiar franchise faces like Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Rebecca Ferguson, Henry Czerny, and Vanessa Kirby, with Esai Morales playing the primary villain.
AND more good news, both Dead Reckoning movies were filmed back to back, so we won’t have to wait too long to wait for what’s rumoured to be Ethan Hunt’s last movie. Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part Two is scheduled to arrive in June 2024.
Mission Impossible 7 is out in cinemas from 10th July.
Barbie
Just under 6 weeks to go until the biggest movie moment of the year!
No plastic, she’s fantastic!
Now we know, you’ve all seen the ICONIC trailer! But what actually is the plot of the new Barbie movie? WELL it’s looking like the movie will find Barbie lost in the ‘real world’.
Eccentric and individualistic, Barbie is exiled from Barbieland because of her imperfections. When her home world is in peril, Barbie returns with the knowledge that what makes her different also makes her stronger.
We’re SO excited to see Margot Robbie live out our Barbie fantasy and bring our favourite doll to life on the big screen.
From what we know so far, this movie is set to shape future generations and Barbie will remain an absolute icon.
Barbie is out in cinemas worldwide from 21st July.
Oppenheimer
Dubbed the ‘father of the atomic bomb’, J. Robert Oppenheimer was the scientific genius who created the most terrifying weapon in history and lived the rest of his life in its shadow.
The Oppenheimer movie is based on Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin’s acclaimed 2005 biography of the late scientist, American Prometheus, examining both his moral agonies at creating the bomb and the terrifying global rush to armament sparked by his work.
There’s no shortage of stars in this movie, that’s for sure! With Cillian Murphy playing the movie lead, you also have Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Matt Damon, Gary Oldman, Kenneth Branagh AND Josh Hartnett. Pretty impressive right?
The shattering historical drama hits the big screen on July 21st.
