20 years of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone! ⚡

On this day, 20 years ago the Wizarding World entered our lives on the big screen for the first time. Yes, 20 years! Can you believe it? We're feeling very old right now!

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was the movie that introduced us and thousands of fans to the Wizarding World and created some of the most memorable and iconic scenes in the entire franchise! 

20 years ago we first met Harry and twenty years later he is still a big part of our lives. The magic of Harry Potter still lives on and almost two decades later we are still as obsessed (if not more) as we were watching Harry Potter, Ron and Hermione on the big screen for the first time.

To celebrate 20 years since the movie release of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, we wanted to share our top 10 moments from the movie with our fellow potterheads. Yes YOU reading this blog post! 

Now, as a Harry Potter fan reading this you're probably thinking... how could you possibly pick just 10 moments? Trust us when we say that it was EXTREMELY difficult!

In this movie there were a lot of first time. From our first time seeing Diagon Alley and the Hogwarts Castle to seeing the golden trio for the first time.

Here are our top ten favourite moments from Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone!

Yer a Wizard, Harry

This pivotal moment was the start of it all. This iconic scene needs no introduction or explanation and it only feels right to start our favourite moments off with the moment Harry Potter discovered who he really was. A staple moment where Harry immersed himself into a whole new world.

Entering Gringotts 

When Harry steps foot into Gringotts for the first time he is hit with a lot of information in a very short space of time. From discovering what a goblin looks like to how wizarding money works, this scene introduces not only Harry but introduces us to the Wizarding World. 

Oh and of course, the look on Harry's face when found that his late parents had left him a great deal of money in a vault = priceless (No pun intended!).

Olivanders 

We just had to include this magical moment. Who could forget the moment that Harry's wand chose him? In fact, Harry's first time to Diagon Alley gave us so many amazing firsts. From meeting Hedwig to the first time Harry truly realising he's famous... 

Hogwarts Express 

This was the first time we saw the trio together for the first time and we were introduced to Ron and Hermione. Everything about this scene we absolutely love. You never forget the first time you meet a lifelong friend and we'll never forget seeing Harry, Ron and Hermione together for the first time!

Harry and the Sorting Hat 

Any Harry Potter fan will tell you how important it is to know what Hogwarts house you are in. We got to see the sorting hat in action for the first time and it was where it all began for Harry and his classmates. This was the moment that Harry discovered what house he would be in and one that shaped his future.

Seeing Hogwarts

Now I don't know about you but we want to take a boat ride to Hogwarts! From the music to the gorgeous scenery, everything about this scene is truly magical. Seeing Harry look up at the Hogwarts Castle for the first time, as we as an audience get our first glimpse of one of the most magical places is easily one of the most iconic and beautiful scenes in the movie franchise (and cinematic history!).

Flying Lessons

From Ron getting hit in the face with a broomstick to Draco getting a bit of what he deserved, this scene is just iconic for so many reasons. Oh and we can't forget Harry's triumphant first flight.

Wizard's Chess

If this scene didn't make you want to play chess then we don't know what will. A life-sized game of chess sounds absolutely terrifying but equally sounds awesome! It was hard to watch what could potentially happen to a piece if they lost, but it was a great scene to watch Ron shine and led us to fall in love with Ron Weasley!

Harry Catching the Golden Snitch

From Gryffindor beating Slytherin, to Harry almost swallowing the Snitch, who knew Quidditch would be so exciting?!

Christmas at Hogwarts

Harry's first Christmas at Hogwarts is everything. Watching Harry receive his first ever Christmas presents and get so excited was such a heart-warming scene to watch. We want to be at Hogwarts at Christmas!
