Celebrating World Book Day 2024! 📚

And just like that, it's that time of the year again and World Book Day is just four weeks away! 

This year, World Book Day falls on Thursday 7th March 2024.

Fun fact: Every year the annual celebration across the UK and Ireland is always held on the first Thursday in March. 

World Book Day changes lives through the love of books and shared reading. The purpose of World Book Day is to promote reading for pleasure, offering every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own. 

World Book Day was created on the 23rd of April 1996 by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading in over 100 countries across the globe. 

The first World Book Day in the UK took place in 1997 to encourage young people to discover the pleasure of reading. With a continued commitment to promote reading for pleasure, the charity has a particular focus on reaching children from disadvantaged backgrounds. 

Over 25 years later, children of all ages are continuing to come together to share the joy of reading for the fun of it and it’s so inspiring to see that the love of reading is still continuing to bring joy to millions of kids not only in the UK and Ireland, but around the world.

We think that the purpose of World Book Day is incredible and we love getting the opportunity to shine the spotlight on authors, illustrators, books and the sheer joy of reading!
