What to watch this Halloween weekend! 📺

Get ready because it’s time to celebrate all things spooky! Tis the season to binge watch the best Halloween movies and there’s no better time like the present. This weekend is officially Halloween weekend and it’s time to get your scare on!

Whether you love being scared or just love a movie marathon, there's no better way to celebrate the spooky season than with a spooky movie marathon!

There are so many great Halloween movies and TV shows to choose from with something spooky for everyone. Even the scaredy-cats out there have options for movie night.

Remember, not all Halloween movies need to bring the fear factor to be enjoyable.

Who needs trick or treating? Stay home and watch Halloween movies instead!

As we prepare for Halloween weekend, here are some of our recommendations of movies (and TV shows) to watch over the weekend:

Casper

We wanted to throw a little bit of nostalgia into the mix because we used to love watching Casper growing up and we even wanted our very own Casper the friendly ghost!

Who else remembers the friendly ghost that everybody loved?

Casper is available to watch on Sky Store and Amazon Prime.

You Season 3

Every season of this series somehow manages to shock us and the new season is no different. Prepare yourself, because Penn Badgley’s serial killer Joe is back once again in season 3 of You.

Hocus Pocus

No Halloween movie watch list is complete with Hocus Pocus. If you’re still not in the spooky spirit, then this movie will have you casting spells and carving pumpkins in no time!

Here at VU, Hocus Pocus is one of our absolute favourites and we look forward to watching this Disney classic every single year.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

What’s this, what’s this? Another classic that just HAS to be mentioned. A must watch on our movie watchlist. We watch this all year around but always seems right to dig this one out for the spooky season. We love you Jack Skellington!

Stranger Things

If for some reason you have missed out on watching Stranger Things, then October is the perfect month for a binge watch of the popular supernatural series sets in the 1980s.

It’s also Stranger Things Day on the 6th November, so you can get involved in the celebrations. Also, the Halloween episodes will especially get you into the spooky season spirit.

The first 3 seasons of Stranger Things are available to watch on Netflix.

Ghostbusters

I ain’t afraid of no ghost!

Whether you are a fan of the 2016 version or prefer the 1984 classic, Ghostbusters is a fan favourite to watch this spooky season and is definitely one for all the family to enjoy.

Also, if you’re a fan of the movie franchise, a direct sequel to Ghostbusters 2 is set for release next month! Ghostbusters: Afterlife stars Ant-Man himself, Paul Rudd and Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard and is set for releases in cinemas on November 19th.

You can watch the trailer here:

The Shining

No Halloween movie marathon is complete without this classic.

Goosebumps

Who else remembers the Goosebumps books growing up? We were completely obsessed with these books. In this 2015 movie, Jack Black plays a fictional version of author R.L. Stine and the creatures from his creepy stories get unleashed on the world!

Last Night in Soho

A tale of the swinging 60s, time travel-fuelled obsession and the deadly consequences, Last Night in Soho follows Matt Smith, Thomasin Mackenzie and Anya Taylor-Joy in Edgar Wright’s new horror.

After many delays due to the pandemic, Last Night in Soho is scheduled for release on October 29th.

After watching the trailer, this movie will be worth a watch (and may just keep you up at night!).

Squid Game

The series the whole world is talking about! Although it’s not classed as a horror, it may be scary for some (especially those who are not a fan of violence!).

Night Teeth

This new Netflix original is one for teens and young adults.

Night Teeth stars Disney Channel star Debby Ryan and is about a young driver who picks up two mysterious women up for a night of party hopping, but when his passengers reveal their true nature, he must fight to stay alive.

Expect lots of vampire drama and a human getting caught up in the mix.

Oh and did we mention that Megan Fox is in it?

Now available to stream on Netflix.

If you have a Netflix subscription then you’re in luck as the entire Halloween franchise has arrived on the streaming service. From the 1978 original to Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers is now available to binge watch. If you’re planning a movie marathon with the kids, try A Tale Dark & Grimm and Sharkdog’s Fintastic Halloween.
