PlayStation 5 release

PlayStation 5 release

Another exciting week for gamers! The release of the PlayStation 5 finally arrived yesterday. With the ability to load, play and react faster, you’ve never seen a console like it!

The PS5’s defining feature is its bespoke, customised CPU, GPU and SSD storage solution, its virtual reality support and its first-party exclusive games.

Just like the XBOX Series X/S, there are two different models of the PS5: one with an optical disc drive and a disc-free, digital version. The PlayStation 5 retails at £450. The disc-free, digital edition is slightly cheaper and retails at £360.

What can we expect from the PS5?

Over on Playstation.com, Sony have described what you can expect from the new console.

“Experience lightning-fast loading with an ultra-high-speed SSD, deeper immersion with support for haptic feedback, adaptive triggers and 3D Audio and an all-new generation of incredible PlayStation games.”

What new features does the PS5 have?

  • Ray tracing
  • 4K-TV gaming
  • Up to 120fps with 120Hz output
  • HDR technology
  • 8k output
  • PlayStation VR integration
  • Backwards compatibility – allows you to play PS4 games on your PS5 console.
  • Game Boost – you can enjoy faster and smoother frame rates in select PS4 and PS VR games.
  • Upgrade PS4 games to digital PS5 games – upgrade your PS4 discs and digital PS4 games to digital PS5 games and have no worries of not being able to play your favourite PS4 game again.

With every new console comes new accessories. You can now experience haptic feedback via the DualSense wireless controller and feel the effects and impact of your in-game actions through dynamic sensory feedback. You can also simulate the physical impact of in-game activities with the immersive adaptive triggers on your controller featuring dynamic resistance in select PS5 games. Both features allow you to feel like you’re right there in the action.

Other new accessories include:

  • Pulse 3D wireless headset
  • DualSense charging station
  • HD Camera that mimics the look of the console

A console that lets you see, hear and feel every second of game play sounds like an absolute winner to us!

There are around 30 games available already which include a selection of cross-platform games that can also be played on the PS4. As for games that can only be played on PS5, the number is much smaller.

Some of the platform exclusives include:

  • Spider-Man: Miles Morales – brand new action adventure game that is exclusive to the new PlayStation. Showcases many, if not all of the PS5’s features.
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops – Cold War
  • Final Fantasy 16
  • Horizon Zero Dawn

PlayStation 5 games will look better, run smoother, and load faster than ever before.

Where can you get your hands on the new PlayStation console?

Just like the Xbox Series X/S, the PS5 sold out in most locations extremely fast, which was a given. Getting hold of a PS5 on both pre-orders and on launch day has been a real struggle for many fans as the console sold out in minutes. Amazon, Game, BT, Curry’s, Argos, John Lewis, Very and Sony were all out of stock within a matter of hours!

Unfortunately at the moment it appears nowhere in the UK has any consoles remaining, however, there is always the possibility that some retailers have been holding back stock, so keep an eye out online as fingers crossed more will become available just in time for Christmas!

If you have managed to secure a PS5 through pre-order or on launch day, then you’re in for a treat!

For those who unfortunately were unable to get hold of a console through pre-orders or on release date yesterday, the wait begins for the restocks!
