The Christmas holidays are upon us, and there's some cosy festive features to keep us warm.

Firm favourites likeΒ Home Alone, The Santa Clause, ElfΒ andΒ The GrinchΒ always make an appearance on our screens every year, but after you've watched all of them for about the 100th time, it's time to try something new!

With the ongoing rise of streaming platforms, we now have an overwhelming amount of Christmas content to work our way through with Netflix, Prime Video, Disney + and Apple TV all releasing new festive films for 2023.

Well what can we expect? There's no doubt about it that we can expect the familiar cheesy, family-friendly fare you often get with Christmas movies, and of course, lots of laughs.

If you're looking for something to do outside the cosiness of your home, why not take a trip to your local cinema? In this blog, we've also included some new movies that we think make a great addition to your December movie watchlist!

So, without further ado, here are just some of the new Christmas movies you should have on your December movie watchist this festive season.

Heather Graham and singer-turned-actress Brandy Norwood have teamed up this Christmas for a festive comedy, where they play long-term frenemies thrown together for the festive period. Every year, Jackie (played by Brandy Norwood) sends out a Christmas newsletter to all her friends, boasting of her perfect family, enraging former university friend Charlotte (played by Heather Graham), who's sceptical that anyone's life could be so idyllic. But when a twist of fate lands Charlotte on Jackie's doorstep days before Christmas, she vows to get to the truth.

Dashing Through the Snow

Single Dad Eddie (Ludacris) hates Christmas. But when a man dressed as Santa Claus (Lil Rel Howery) who might actually be the real Father Christmas - appears in Eddie's chimney, which leads Eddie and his daughter out on a chaotic adventure. Will Eddie be able to regain his Christmas cheer?

The Naughty Nine

When Andy wakes up on Christmas morning and finds no presents under the Christmas tree, he realises he has made it onto the naughty list. Vowing to get the presents Andy feels he deserves, he pulls together a crack team of other kids on the naughty list, to pull off a North Pole heist. But, over time, the kids begin to realise Christmas is actually more about giving than taking.

Family SwitchΒ 

Now we all love a good body-switch movie. Who could forget Freaky Friday or the absolute classic that is 13 going on 30?! WELL, Jennifer Garner is back. Almost 20 years after swapping bodies inΒ 13 Going on 30, she's back in a new Netflix Christmas movie, in which a rare cosmic event causes her and her husband to switch bodies with their teenage kids, days before Christmas. The family is forced to help each other navigate landing a promotion, college interview, record deal and football tryout...yikes!

Candy Cane Lane

Eddie Murphy stars in this Christmas comedy adventure about a man on a mission to win his neighbourhood's annual Christmas home-decoration contest. After making a deal with an elf named Peppa (played by Jillian Bell), the elf brings to life the "12 Days of Christmas", which causes problems for the whole town. (Sounds like it's overtaken by a lot of birds, if the lyrics to the holiday classic are anything to go by).

Diary of a Wimpy Kid Christmas: Cabin Fever

Fans of the Wimpy Kid book series can watch a new, full-length animated adaptation of Greg Heffley's misfortunes. This time, Greg's holiday takes a turn for the worse when he gets snowed in with his family over vacation, and he has to learn how to survive the cabin fever.

With celebrating the huge milestone that is The Walt Disney Company turning 100 this year,Β Disney's WishΒ reveals what really happens when you wish upon a star.

WishΒ welcomes audiences to the magical kingdom of Rosas, where Asha, a sharp-witted idealist, makes a wish so powerful that is answered by a cosmic force - a little ball of boundless energy called Star. Following Asha's journey, Asha and Star confront the rule of Rosas, King Magnifico (played by Chris Pine) to save her community and prove that when the will of one courageous human connects with the magic of the stars, wondrous things can happen.

When it comes to sidekicks, nobody does adorable sidekicks like Disney. Get ready to meet Star and Valentino! Think it's safe to say we're going to be seeing a lot more of these guys everywhere.

With its blend of classic and cutting-edge animation, paired with songs that you are most definitely going to be singing along to on the way home,Β WishΒ is the perfect family animation to start your Christmas countdown in style.

Wonka

The movie we have been waiting for all year is finally out! Timothee Chalamet transforms into Roald Dahl's chocolate factory owner Willy Wonka in the latest adaptation,Β Wonka.Β 

Directed and co-written by Paul King,Β WonkaΒ delves into the origin story of the famous and eccentric chocolatier, Willy Wonka, from his days as a young adult selling chocolate in a small shop to becoming the eccentric genius known all over the world for his unique candies.

When it comes to the cast, Warner Bros. Pictures have pulled out all the stops for this one! From Rowan Atkinson and Olivia Coleman to Hugh Grant as an Oompa Loompa, the movie features a stellar ensemble cast!

From tracing his journey from selling chocolate in a small candy store to becoming the whimsical genius we all know and love from the original story,Β WonkaΒ definitely has to be at the top of your December movie watchlist this year.

Elf (20th Anniversary)

If smiling is your favourite, get ready for some festive news! One of the best Christmas movies of all time (and one of our absolute faves)Β ElfΒ is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and to celebrate, Buddy the Elf is returning to the big screen. Yes you heard it right,Β ElfΒ is spreading the Christmas cheer once again and making its return to cinema screens just in time for the festive season!

If you need us, we'll be at the cinema quoting every line and eating our Elf-inspired snacks. Spaghetti anyone?

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom

Jason Momoa has returned to the waves once again inΒ Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.Β 

Following the original movie released in 2018, Aquaman 2 will see Arthur stepping in to protect Atlantis after an ancient power is unleashed by Black Manta played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Not only is Black Manta on the hunt for Atlantean tech to help rebuild his armour, Orm plots to escape his Atlantean prison. A lot seems to be going on in this sequel! Nicole Kidman also makes a comeback as Aquaman's mother Atlanna.
