In our Movie Era - Movies to look forward to in May 2024! 🍿
This year might not have a Barbenheimer BUT there are plenty of movies to look forward to this year. Wicked, Deadpool and Wolverine, Beetlejuice, Moana 2, shall we go on?
But let's not get ahead of ourselves...
As May is just 2 weeks away (how are we nearly half way through the year already?!) May is shaping up to be a pretty exciting month for new movie releases!
We're most definitely in our movie era right now and we're absolutely loving it!
The Idea of You - 2nd May
Starring Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine, The Idea of You tells the story of a single mum, who ends up in a relationship with the lead singer of the world's biggest boy band, after meeting him at Coachella. Sounds like a dream, right?
Based on the novel by Robinne Lee of the same name, the book adaptation will be arriving on Prime Video on the 2nd May.
The Fall Guy - 3rd May
He may be hanging up his "beach" duties and cowboy boots for now, but Ryan Gosling is set to be back on our screens this year (sadly not as Ken) but in a new action movie called The Fall Guy.
Think of this as Drive but with Ken in the driving seat.
An adaptation of the '80s show of the same name, The Fall Guy follows Ryan Gosling as a retired stuntman pulled back into the game when his director ex, played by Emily Blunt, asks him to find the missing star of her movie. The discovery of a criminal plot threatens to upend not only his mission, but his job and his plan to win back the love of his life.
Mother of the Bride - 9th May
Lana's daughter Emma returns from abroad and drops a bombshell: She's getting married. In Thailand. In a month! Things only get worse when Lana learns that the man who captured Emma's heart is the son of the man who broke hers years ago.
Brooke Shields, Miranda Cosgrove, Benjamin Bratt and Chad Michael Murray round out the rom-com cast.
Mother of the Bride walks down the aisle onto Netflix on the 9th May.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes - 10th May
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is the fourth movie in the Planet of the Apes franchise, continuing the story of intelligent simian descendants navigating their dominance on Earth.
Generations after the events of 2017's War for the Planet of the Apes, the apes are resurgent and humanity is reduced to a feral state, with the ferocious simian leader Proximus Caesar reigning supreme with his twisted interpretation of the teachings of Caesar.
With a cast that doesn't include Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings Gollum) for the first time, there's much anticipation on what the next Planet of the Apes movie will bring as Serkis's Caesar has been the central focus of every film in the reboot franchise so far.
If - 17th May
From writer and director John Krasinski is about a young girl who discovers that she can see everyone's imaginary friends who have been left behind as their real-life friends have grown up. After discovering her superpower, she embarks on a magical adventure to reconnect forgotten IFs with their kids to ensure they're not lost forever.
Not only does this movie have a fun and heartwarming story to tell, it also features one star studded cast! Including Ryan Reynolds (also the producer), Fiona Shaw, Steve Carell, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Matt Damon and Emily Blunt.
Thelma the Unicorn - 17th May
When a rare pink and glitter-filled moment of fate makes Thelma the Pony's wish of being transformed into a unicorn come true, she rises to instant international pop-superstar stardom, but at an unexpected cost. Thelma the Unicorn is a quirky, hilarious, and heartfelt ride from directors Lynn Wang and Jared Hess.
The Garfield Movie - 24th May
The world-famous, Monday-hating, lasagna-loving indoor cat, is about to have a wild outdoor adventure!
Our favourite fat cat Garfield is returning to his comic-strip roots, with Chris Pratt handling the voice work through a mouthful of lasagna.
After an unexpected reunion with Garfield's long-lost father - scruffy street cat Vic (voiced by Samuel L. Jackson) - Garfield and his canine friend Odie are forced to abandon their pampered life to join Vic in a high-stakes heist.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga- 24th May
George Miller returns to the scorched desert once again for a prequel to 2015's Oscar-winning Mad Max: Fury Road.
This time, Anya Taylor-Joy takes on the role of Furiosa: a skull-shaven, ink-dipped war captain, revealing how a little girl kidnapped from the Green Place of Many Mothers grew up into a cybernetic angel of death.
Set 45 years after the apocalypse, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga follows Furiosa, played by Anya Taylor-Joy, before she became a formidable imperator. After Furiosa is kidnapped by Chris Hemsworth's character (not actually Chris Hemsworth), she must fight for her life and her freeform across the barren wasteland as she tries to make her way back home.
Atlas - 24th May
In last year's The Mother, Jennifer Lopez fought her demons deep in the Alaskan wilderness. Now, she's launching into orbit fighting a new foe.
Atlas Shepherd (Jennifer Lopez), a brilliant but misanthropic data analyst with a deep distrust of artificial intelligence, joins a mission to capture a renegade robot with whom she shares a mysterious past. But when plans go awry, her only hope of saving the future of humanity from AI is to trust it.
