It's National Barbie Day!

Happy National Barbie Day!

Today, on Tuesday 9th March we’re celebrating a day that changed the lives of women and girls forever.

On this day in 1959, the Barbie doll debuted at the American International Toy Fair in New York. Ruth Handler created the Barbie doll and little did she know that she launched what has now become, a worldwide icon.

Barbie was created to allow girls to imagine what their lives could be like in the future.

Barbie has shaped the way for thousands of girls over the years and it’s amazing to see that 60 + years later, Barbie is still thriving and continuing to inspire little girls (and even boys) all over the world.

And did you know that Barbie’s full name is actually Barbara Millicent Roberts??

Toymakers across the globe have been mass-producing toys for years and before Barbie, none of them had adult features. Barbie’s adult features made the toy a first of its kind and she came with a full array of accessories.

Over the years, Barbie has evolved both in style and shape. In recent years, the Barbie brand has honoured pioneering women across several eras. The modern Barbie offers positive role models in business, science, education and more!

Our favourite dolls are now also becoming more inclusive and we are so here for it! New collections have included embracing disabilities, with a doll in a wheelchair and even a doll wearing a prosthetic leg! Alongside other collections celebrating inclusion, feminism, positivity and sisterhood in all shapes and colours.

If like us, you grew up with Barbie as part of your childhood, I'm sure you will agree with us when we say that it’s amazing to see how things have moved a lot since then!

Barbie continues to change and embrace new body shapes, skin colour, hair textures and much more, year after year and we’re so excited to see what the future holds for the Barbie brand!

With becoming a global sensation, Barbie has created a community like no other.

So join us today to celebrate National Barbie Day. Today is also Barbie’s 62th Birthday and we must say, she looks incredible for her age!

National Barbie Day is all about celebrating the iconic toy that is still a part of our lives, 62 years later.

Did you have your very own Barbie doll growing up? Or are you little ones now obsessed with Barbie like you used to be? Everyone has their own story to tell and we would love to hear your Barbie memories!

We loved growing up with Barbie and so glad she is still around for the younger generations of today. Long Live Barbie! (Or should we say Barbara!)
