HUGE Anniversaries in 2023!

2023 is set to be a HUGE year for the world of entertainment. From movie milestones to 100 years of Warner Bros. and Disney, we're here to talk about all the big anniversaries set to take place in 2023! 

New movie releases are always exciting but getting to go back in time and celebrate movies from the past is just as special. 

Not only is 2023 shaping up to be an incredible year for new movie and TV show releases, it's also the year of some HUGE anniversaries. 

From movies hitting double digits to movies turning 70+, there is plenty to celebrate this year! Or watch for the first time, no judgement...

Without further ado, here are some big anniversaries to celebrate this year!

As we've previously mentioned, 2023 is shaping up to be an iconic year for many reasons. First being two iconic studios celebrating their centenary year this year! Disney and Warner Bros. were both founded in 1923 and have continued to create and entertain millions of people all over the world for 100 years! Unbelievable right?! 

Disney - 100 years of wonder

Founded as the Disney Brothers Studio on October 16th 1923, by brothers Walt and Roy O. Disney, the past 100 years have been filled with magic for the Walt Disney Company. Now, in 2023, The Walt Disney Company's products and retail experiences span across its iconic brands, such as Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, ESPN, Twentieth Century and National Geographic, alongside ShopDisney and the Disney Parks.

Disney will be celebrating their 100th anniversary across every part of the company and has already guaranteed that there will be even more special surprises and news throughout the year. We've already started to see staggered product releases with exclusive merchandise celebrating the big occasion. 

We can only imagine what Disney has in store for the celebration, but one thing is for sure that we know is that 2023 is going to magical for The Walt Disney Company.

Not only is The Walt Disney Company turning 100 this year, but two of Disney's brands, National Geographic and Marvel Studios are also celebrating anniversaries.

Founded on January 13th 1888, as a scholarly journal, National Geographic celebrates its 135th anniversary. The Walt Disney Company has held controlling interest in the company since 2019. 

Marvel Studios was founded on December 7th 1993 and is set to turn 30 this year. The television production company is a subsidiary of Walt Disney Studios, a division of The Walt Disney Company. In case you didn't know, Marvel Studios produces the MCU movies and series, based on the characters that appear in  Marvel Comics publications. 

Warner Bros. 100 years of storytelling

Another huge celebration next year is 100 years of Warner Bros! From Oscar- winning films to unforgettable TV shows, Warner Bros. is celebrating a huge milestone this year with 100 years of storytelling that has entertained audiences around the world.

Over the past 100 years, Warner Bros. have created some of the most recognisable and beloved movies, TV shows and characters ever made.

As part of the year-long celebration, Warner Bros. are set to roll out a line-up of special events and programming on various platforms, including a three-part documentary on the history of Warner Bros. Also as part of the centennial celebration, Warner Bros. will be releasing a line-up of digital, Blu-ray, and DVD releases, including a 100 film collection, four 25-film volumes, complete television series sets, "best of" television show compilation volumes, AND 12 remastered 4K Ultra-High Definition releases of some of our favourite WB movies.

And of course, Warner Bros. will continue to release huge blockbusters throughout the year including DC's The Flash, Barbie and the epic sequel Dune: Part Two.  

Peter Pan -70th Anniversary

70 years ago, Walt Disney's Peter Pan premiered on February 5th, 1953. For us, Peter Pan has got to be one of the most iconic Walt Disney classic movies. From its pixie dust to Neverland, Peter Pan truly is a magical movie and growing up it led us to truly believe in magic.

This year, Peter Pan and Wendy is set to debut on Disney+ this year and is (rumoured) to be released on the occasion of Peter Pan's 70th anniversary.

Superman - 85th Anniversary

2023 also marks the 85th anniversary of Superman's debut, and it's looking like DC are planning to celebrate that milestone with a major revamp of the Superman comic book line.

The Disney Channel - 40th Anniversary

Can you believe that Disney Channel is 40 years old?! Suddenly we feel old! From The Mickey Mouse Club that brought us Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears to Recess, Lizzie McGuire, Hannah Montana and of course, our Disney Channel Original Movies.

Disney's Animal Kingdom - 25th Anniversary

Animal Kingdom turns 25 years old in 2023! The park opened on April 22nd 1998 and has been the home of adorable animals, incredible food, thrilling rides and adventures ever since. Nothing has been announced as of yet for the park's anniversary, but we're sure it will be celebrated one way or another! 

Mulan - 25th Anniversary

Mulan debuted in cinemas 25 years ago on June 19th, 1998. The animated feature remains one of Disney's most unforgettable movies. So much so they tried to follow up on the success with the direct-to-DVD movie Mulan 2 in 2004 and went onto create a live-action movie in 2020.

Star Wars: Return of the Jedi - 40th Anniversary

The force is still strong with this one! 2023 is looking like a huge year for the Star Wars franchise. With new debuts on the horizon, we cant forget the 40th anniversary of the third instalment of the original "Star Wars" trilogy, "Return of the Jedi" which was released on May 25th, 1983. 

Garfield - 45th Anniversary

On June 19th, 1978, Jim Davis's first Garfield strip debuted in 41 newspapers. Following the antics of a cranky, overweight orange cat quickly drew in fans and 45 years later, is still everybody's favourite overweight orange cat!

Grease - 45th Anniversary

On June 16th in the US and 14th September in the UK, this beloved classic celebrates 45 years! Grease became the highest-grossing musical ever made at the time of its release, and 45 years later, it still remains one of the most iconic movies of all time. We still know every dance move and song lyric to this movie.

Jurassic Park - 30th Anniversary

Name a better movie about dinosaurs, we'll wait...

June 9th, 2023 marks 30 years since the first movie from the franchise hit the big screen. Back in June of 1993, Jurassic Park broke records and became the highest grossing film ever at the time. 30 years later, it's still just as iconic and has now become one of the most epic movie franchises of all time. The franchise as a whole sits 11th on the all-time movie franchise list, taking more than $6 billion at the worldwide box office.

Paw Patrol - 10th Anniversary

Get ready for PAW Patrol's biggest year ever! This year PAW Patrol will be commemorating its 10th anniversary in 2023. On Saturday 12th August 2023, it will be 10 years on this date since Nickelodeon first launched PAW Patrol onto cable television. To commemorate the mighty occasion, our favourite pups will be celebrating with a new movie sequel in October AND a spinoff show for Rubble!

The Nightmare Before Christmas - 30th Anniversary

What's this, what's this? The Nightmare Before Christmas is turning 30! Believe it or not, our favourite stop-motion feature film is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year and we're still as (if not more) obsessed with Jack and Sally than we were when we first discovered The Nightmare Before Christmas. 

What started as a simple poem playing on the classic poem " The Night Before Christmas" to what has now become a cult classic and one of the most unique and bold Disney movies of all time.

Robin Hood - 50th Anniversary

Who remembers Robin Hood and Little John walking through the forest? We certainly do! Some may say that Robin Hood is seriously underrated and we would have to agree. It's an absolute classic and to us, represents a timeless time for Disney movies. Robin Hood premiered on the 8th November 1973.

Mrs Doubtfire - 30th Anniversary

Mrs Doubtfire (played by the beloved Robin Williams) captured the hearts of us all when the movie premiered 30 years ago. Can you believe it's been 30 years already?! Still to this day, audiences everywhere love this movie and it remains one of Robin Williams' most cherished roles. Mrs Doubtfire turns the big 3 0 on November 24th.

Frozen - 10th Anniversary

The cold really bothered us until we were introduced to Anna, Elsa and Olaf 10 years ago and it's like the cold never bothered us anyway! 10 years ago on November 27th in the US and December 6th in the UK, the magical tale of two sisters and their adorable snowman sled into our lives and now we can't imagine our lives without them!

Little did we all know how huge Frozen was going to be and the movie franchise is now one of Disney's biggest blockbusters. And yes, we're still singing "Let It Go" at the top of our lungs!

Scarface - 40th Anniversary

One of the greatest gangster movies ever made celebrates 40 years on December 9th. The 1983 classic stars Al Pacino as ex-convict Tony Montana, and follows him as he comes a powerful drug lord in 1980s Miami.

Doctor Who - 60th Anniversary

To celebrate 60 years of the iconic TV show, a series of special episodes will air on BBC One In November 2023 in the UK and Ireland, and on Disney + internationally. 

And great news! David Tennant will be returning as the Doctor following the regeneration twist at the end of The Power of the Doctor, and Catherine Tate will once again be joining him as companion Donna Noble, before Ncuti Gatwa takes over the keys of the Tardis as the Fifteenth doctor in the series later on in 2023.
