Everything you need to know about the Friends reunion
OH.MY.GAWD!
Could we BE any more emotional?
When the announcement hit that we were FINALLY being given what we’ve been asking for, the official news of a highly anticipated Friends reunion sent fans around the world into a friendzy.
Who would’ve thought that Rachel, Ross, Chandler, Monica, Joey and Phoebe would be the ones to save 2021?!
We’ve waited so long for a Friends reunion and now it has FINALLY happened!
From on and off screen relationships to a new version of Smelly Cat, here is everything you need to know about the highly anticipated Friends reunion!
The long-awaited programme Friends: The Reunion aired on HBO Max in the US and Sky One in the UK at 8pm last night.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the special has been extensively postponed multiple times. Taping took place in April on the original Friends soundstage at the Warner Bros Studio lot in Burbank, California.
There were laughs, tears and a whole lot of bloopers!
The nostalgia was definitely real and gave us goosebumps as soon as the opening credits appeared. Watching the cast get emotional over returning to the iconic Friends set, was enough to set us off!
Friends: The Reunion was split into different sections beginning with the six cast members reuniting on the set of the show where we watched them watch bloopers and behind the scenes videos from their time filming the show.
We also got to see Ross, Rachel, Monica, Chandler, Joey and Phoebe recreate the iconic trivia game from one of our favourite episodes “The One with the Embryos”.
There was also a panel interview/discussion hosted by James Corden, alongside a table read of some of our favourite Friends scenes, a fashion show and even a trip down memory lane with the show’s creators. All crammed into 1 hour and 40 minutes! (We definitely would've loved another hour!)
The show was filled with guest appearances too!
Guest stars included: Lady Gaga, James Corden, Reese Witherspoon, David Beckham, Justin Bieber, BTS, Cindy Crawford, Cara Delevingne, Kit Harington, Mindy Kaling, and Malala Yousafzai.
Spoiler alert: If you’ve ever wondered what Justin Bieber would look like dressed as a potato then the Friends reunion is where you will get to see this vision come to life.
Alongside the tears and laughs, a lot was revealed to us Friends fans that we never even knew!
The reunion revealed many big revelations including that David Schwimmer had to be ‘begged’ to play Ross, and both Matthew Perry and Jennifer Aniston were nearly forced out of the cast!
Lisa Kudrow also explained how she can’t watch her own performance as Phoebe. Now I don’t know about you, but we’ve lost track of the number of times we’ve watched every episode.
Jennifer Anniston revealed that Brad Pitt was one of her favourite stars to make an appearance in the show. (Kind of expected considering she later married the Hollywood actor!)
The biggest reveal from the reunion had got to be the (almost) off-screen romance between our beloved Ross and Rachel. Yes, you read that right. Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer both confessed that they had “major crushes” on each other during filming but it was never the right time. Cue the sobbing.
It was a star-studded reunion with cameo appearances from some of Hollywood’s biggest names. For us, Lady Gaga stole the show with her “Smelly Cat” duet opposite the legend herself, Lisa Kurdow aka the creator of Smelly Cat, Phoebe Buffay.
And finally, we couldn’t quite believe just how much impact the show has had on millions of people around the world - even David Beckham! Several Friends fans from around the world were shown in the reunion special, sharing how the show had helped them overcome depression, illness, loneliness and other personal struggles.
Now I don’t know about you but after watching the reunion show, we’re now planning on binge watching Friends for the hundredth time.
It was the perfect Friends fix that we never knew we needed so much. It was emotional, funny and incredibly heart warming.
If you missed out on watching Friends: The Reunion last night, don’t worry!
