An Interview with Pastel.Crayonnn
Instagram and TikTok content creator, @pastel.crayonnn has always been drawn to cute and pastel things and on her socials you will see her feed is FULL of aesthetically pleasing cute and pastel content!
With being such a big fan of Ghibli, Pusheen, Sanrio and all things pastel, we wanted to know more about Pastel's love for cute products and how she keeps her feed so cute.
Over the past few months we have been working with pastel.crayonnn on creating some adorable content for our new Pusheen range and we thought it would be great to (virtually) sit down with her to talk all things cute and content creation!
What made you decide to start blogging/creating content?
I have always loved photography and videography! Even from an early age I would love getting behind a camera and being creative. I decided to start creating content after the first lockdown as it was something I had wanted to do for a while and thought that was the perfect time to start it. I honestly started it for fun and had no idea that it would open up an avenue for great opportunities. I also suffer from anxiety so for me, starting content creation and blogging has been such an incredible outlet.
How did you build up your following?
It started with TikTok where a video went viral and I guess the following grew from there! Same with Instagram, it sometimes takes just one video for your account to get some recognition. Having said that, consistently posting definitely has helped as well as building connections from other content creators who are into the same things as I am.
Your feed is full of cute and aesthetically pleasing content. How long does it take you to create content?
Aw thank you so much! I have a fair amount of content lined up so it does sometimes take a couple of hours to shoot and edit etc. However, a single quick video or photo could take up to 30 minutes to shoot and edit.
Do you have a weekly schedule to help you plan out what content you are going to upload?
I definitely did have a more strict schedule when I started content creating and knew exactly what I wanted. Having tried out different options, I find that I upload whatever content I feel best on the day. I usually keep a note of any brand collaborations I have and aim to work towards those on the weekend.
How do you maintain a work/life balance alongside creating content for your social platforms?
I work 5 days a week and therefore don’t get time to create any content on those days. That’s why my weekends are dedicated to content creating! Even so, I only dedicate the mornings-afternoon for it so I have the rest of the day to relax.
What is your favourite type of content to produce?
That’s such a hard one! I think my favourite type of content to produce may be unboxings because it’s usually a genuine reaction of me seeing the products for the first time!
What/who inspires you?
I definitely think my content is inspired by my love for all things cute. I’m heavily inspired by ghibli, sanrio and a colour palette of pastel.
Pros and cons of being a content creator?
I would say there are a lot of pros of being a content creator. Firstly you are able to do something that you genuinely like because you most likely would have started creating content because you have a deep interest in a particular thing. Secondly, it opens up an avenue for so many opportunities that you may not have thought of before for example brand collaborations! The only con I would say is that it’s very easy to get caught up in comparison and starting to sometimes feel that your content is not good enough.
What would you say is the easiest type of content to create?
Photo content is easier personally as opposed to video content because the editing does not take as long!
As a lover of all things cute! What would you say is the cutest item/product you own and why?
That is probably the hardest question ever! I think perhaps a plush from the Hello Kitty x Pusheen Collab or the catpusheeno set from Vanilla Underground
( I mean the tiny whisk and grater is to die for).
Do you prefer to create videos or flat lays?
I love both but I think videos still have my heart as they allow me to be as creative as possible. With creating videos, I know that I can create unboxings, reviews, snack videos etc whereas with flat lays sometimes I’m just a bit limited.
What advice would you give to someone who wishes to start their own account?
Start your account off for the right reasons, if you’re looking to make an account just for collabs and paid content then that’s probably not the best way to go about it! I’ve found if you start something because you genuinely want to then the opportunities will come to you naturally. Also it’s okay to not know exactly what kind of content you want to produce. With me, it was a bit of trial and error and I had to figure out what type of content I actually liked producing. Once you have that figured out, it will be easier for you to perhaps tap into a bit of a niche. I would definitely say to start off by trying to consistently post at least once a day and make sure you are making connections engaging with other creators who have content that interests you!
What are your goals for 2022?
My goals for 2022 are to start putting myself first and really taking care of my mental health this year. I want to continue doing things that make me happy but also stepping outside of my comfort zone.
Any final words of wisdom?
I will definitely say if you were thinking of starting something there is no better time than now. You don’t want to look back in 10,15, 20 years time and be full of regret thinking “Oh I wish I started doing that sooner”.
We've loved the content that Pastel.Crayonnn has created for us recently and look forward to seeing what content she is going to produce next.
